AboutClaude Oscar Monet was born in Paris on the 14th November 1840. At the age of five, he and his family moved to Le Havre, where he met Eugene Boudin. Monet was persuaded by him to become a landscape painter. He went to Paris, joining the Academie Suisse and the Gleyre Studio. Many talented artists were made through the two places including Renoir and Pissaro. Marrying Camille Doncieux in 1870, they went to Trouville for their honeymoon. While there, Monet went on a trip to Le Havre and for unconfirmed reasons he fled to England. His wife was rescued by Boudin and she went after him. Pisarro also fled. It is believed he didn't want to be conscripted into the French army. While in England, Monet painted multiple London scenes. However, he and his wife returned back to France in 1872. He moved again in 1878 to Vetheuil. The year after, Monet's wife died. From then on Monet travelled all over and painted everywhere he went. He went back to Paris, to the Parisian contryside. There he bought a house in Giverny. A woman called Alice Hoshede had been sharing a part of Monet's life for many years. When her husband died, Monet and Hoshede married. In 1911, Monet's second wife died. HIs eyesight grew bad but after a operation and special glasses he continued to paint which led to his famous water-lily works. Claude Monet died on the 6th December 1926.
