One of the finest artists of her generation, Elisabeth Louise Vigee Le Brun was a masterful portraitist. During her career she painted over 600 portraits, with many commissions from the nobility of Europe including Marie Antoinette.

Her style was very different from the conventions of the time, for which she was often criticised, but her portraits bring a freshness, warmth and openness that makes them appear modern and appealing to contemporary taste. The version that is part of the collection of the National gallery is itself a copy by Vigee le Brun of her own work.

Reproduced at around 2/3 the size of the original, the painting is sized at 28” x 20” (711mm x 508mm) and currently unframed and available for £340, a saving of 20% on our guide price.
