Franz Marc - Little Yellow Horses

This is a reproduction of Franz Marc's Little Yellow Horses 1912 oil painting on canvas.

Marc invites the viewer to connect with the animals in his paintings and to contemplate the spiritual beauty that he strove to depict.

We have a very good customer in Switzerland who contacted us regarding this painting after we had supplied several others to be displayed in his home. Other than the obvious fame of the painting, it was the bright calming colours and the soft lines and shapes which attracted them to this particular painting. His work was highly influenced by religious Renaissance paintings which is reflected in the composition and ideas behind the painting.

"His work is characterized by bright primary color, an almost cubist portrayal of animals, stark simplicity and a profound sense of emotion. Marc gave an emotional meaning or purpose to the colors he used in his work: blue was used to portray masculinity and spirituality, yellow represented feminine joy, and red encased the sound of violence." After liaising with the customer we decided on an ornate, gold leaf frame from the Larson Juhl Imperial collection which really compliments the vivid colours on the canvas. Our qualified framers at Brampton hand stretched and fixed the canvas into the bespoke frame so when it arrived in Switzerland it was ready to hang.
