The Swing c. 1767 - 1768 is one of Fragonard's most famous pieces and was a very influential painting of the time, and is increasingly popular with contemporary artists and designers. It depicts a young woman on a swing, being pushed by what was originally a priest, who looks on from below admiring her legs. Because of this, the painting is widely categorised as an erotic piece and has shaped the way painters depict scenes of this nature.
"With Fragonard's famous work, the Rococo style changed its associations. Fragonard combines a backward-looking Rococo element with a pre-Romantic rendering of a forceful and uncontrollable, often obscene nature" - Wallace Collection Online
Our artist produced an incredibly faithful reproduction of the painting
Given the time period of the piece, we suggested an ornate swept frame from the Traditional English period range that we offer.
As these are all handmade to order, our client was able to choose the exact colour and decorations he wanted and collaboratively we designed this bespoke version which is in keeping with the flamboyancy of the painting.
